What are Large Flow Oil Separators?

How They Work:

Wastewater Inlet: Oily wastewater enters the separator.
CPI Separation: The SWA coalescing plate packs promote the coalescence of oil droplets into larger oil droplets. The larger the oil droplet size, the faster the oil separates from the water phase.
Oil Collection: Separated oil rises to the surface and is collected.
Clean Water Discharge: Treated water is discharged, meeting regulatory standards.

3 Case Studies

1. PTTGC/TTCL (Thailand): SPH Central Booster Compression Project

Challenge: PTTGC, in collaboration with TTCL, required a robust wastewater treatment solution for their LNG production plant in Northern Thailand. The project demanded efficient oil separation from a high-volume wastewater stream to meet strict environmental standards.

Solution: SWA Water supplied a 324 m³/h CPI Large Flow Oil Separator which included 6 plate packs inside of the separator, effectively removing oil and hydrocarbons.

Outcome: The project was successfully completed, ensuring environmental compliance and contributing to the plant’s operational efficiency. The reliable performance of the SWA Water Large Flow Oil Separator met the demanding requirements of the LNG facility.

2. KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Terminal T2): Wastewater Treatment Plants

Challenge: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) needed to install a wastewater treatment system to handle potentially oil (aviation fuel) contaminated stormwater and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The system needed to treat oily wastewater from aircraft hard stand areas.

⦁ Solution: SWA Water designed and supplied a custom Large Flow Oil Separator system consisting of 10 x oil separator sites, 18 oil separator units and 59 plate packs, tailored to KLIA’s specific flow rates and effluent requirements for a combined flowrate of 61,000 m3/h.

Outcome: The system easily met and exceeded environmental standards. This ensured the airport’s operations were environmentally sound, and protected the surrounding ecosystems.

3. IRPC Power Station, Rayong, Thailand: Effluent Treatment Optimisation

Challenge: IRPC developed a power station to provide electricity for its industrial estate development CHP 11 at Rayong, Thailand. IRPC sought to optimise its effluent treatment process to reduce oil and hydrocarbon discharge.

Solution: SWA Water provided two (2) 120 m3/h double-skinned below ground Large Oil Separators, integrated into Toyo’s existing treatment infrastructure

Outcome: The implementation of SWA Water’s Large Flow Oil Separator resulted in a substantial reduction in oil and hydrocarbon levels in the plant’s discharge. This optimisation improved compliance with environmental regulations and enhanced the plant’s overall sustainability.
