Learn How SWA Water Helped PepsiCo Malaysia Achieve Greener, Sustainable Operations!
At SWA Water, we’re passionate about providing innovative and reliable industrial wastewater treatment solutions that empower businesses to operate sustainably. Our commitment extends beyond borders, and our project in Malaysia exemplifies our dedication to exceeding client expectations.
This project involved a collaboration with Veolia Malaysia Sdn Bhd, to deliver a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment solution for their Pepsi Cola bottler operations in Malaysia. The food and beverage industry, by its very nature, generates significant wastewater. Effective treatment is crucial to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, protect waterways, and promote responsible water usage.
The specific challenge involved thickening sludge within the wastewater treatment process at the Permanis bottling plant. SWA Water Malaysia, a subsidiary of SWA Water Australia, was awarded the project for the design, manufacture, supply, and commissioning of a critical component: a 30 cubic metres per hour (m3/h) sludge thickening type counter-current Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit.
The Power of DAF Technology
DAF is a highly effective wastewater treatment process that utilises dissolved air bubbles to separate solids from liquids. Microscopic air bubbles attach to suspended particles, causing them to float to the surface, where they can be easily skimmed off. This process offers several advantages, including:
• Efficient removal of solids: DAF units are particularly adept at removing fats, oils, greases, and other organic matter commonly found in food and beverage wastewater.
• Improved treatment performance: By removing solids upfront, DAF units can significantly improve the efficiency of downstream treatment processes, reducing overall treatment costs.
• Reduced sludge volume: The thickening capability of the DAF unit allows for a significant reduction in sludge volume, simplifying disposal and minimising environmental impact.
Unmatched Expertise, World-Class Manufacturing
For the Permanis project, SWA Water leveraged its extensive experience in DAF technology to design a custom-built unit specifically tailored to the client’s requirements. The unit was manufactured in Australia using high-quality SS304 stainless steel, ensuring exceptional durability and resistance to corrosion, a critical factor in the often harsh environment of industrial wastewater treatment.
Our commitment to quality extends beyond materials. SWA Water’s team of experienced engineers meticulously oversaw the entire project, from initial design through to final commissioning. This ensured the DAF unit seamlessly integrated into the existing wastewater treatment system at the Permanis bottling plant.
A Sustainable Partnership for a Brighter Future
The successful completion of the Permanis project demonstrates SWA Water’s ability to deliver exceptional solutions for clients across the globe. The implemented DAF unit effectively addresses the challenge of sludge thickening, contributing to a more efficient and sustainable wastewater treatment process for Permanis. This, in turn, allows PepsiCo to operate with a reduced environmental footprint, aligning with their commitment to responsible water stewardship.
This project represents just one example of how SWA Water partners with leading companies in the food and beverage industry to achieve their sustainability goals. We are confident that our expertise in industrial wastewater treatment can continue to make a positive impact not only in Malaysia but throughout the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
