Combining the Strengths of Corrugated Plate Interceptor (CPI) Oil Separator & Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technologies – SWA’s Hybrid CPI/DAF Unit is a Real Game Changer!
SWA Water is a world-leading Australian company specialising in the design and manufacture of cutting-edge industrial waste-water treatment equipment. With a global reach, our solutions cater to diverse industries and regions, addressing the critical challenges of water pollution and resource conservation.
One of our inventive products is the Hybrid CPI/DAF Unit. This innovative system combines the strengths of Corrugated Plate Interceptor (CPI) Oil Separator and Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technologies to deliver exceptional performance in oil and grease removal, suspended solids reduction, and overall water quality improvement.
How the Hybrid CPI/DAF Unit Works
- CPI Oil Separator: The CC range is a rectangular style of separator, using coalescing plate technology to separate free, non-emulsified oil from the water phase. Settleable solids would separate from the water phase in co-current fashion within the plate packs and would settle in the sludge zone beneath the plate packs.
- Chemical Precipitation: The wastewater is initially treated with a coagulant and flocculant to destabilise the suspended particles and form larger flocs.
- Dissolved Air Flotation: The treated water is then introduced into a DAF chamber where micro-bubbles are injected. These bubbles adhere to the flocs, causing them to rise to the surface and form a sludge layer.
- Separation: The sludge is skimmed off, while the clarified water is discharged or reused.
Benefits of the Hybrid CPI/DAF Unit
- Superior Oil and Grease Removal: The combined action of CPI Oil Separator and DAF unit ensures efficient removal of oil and grease, even at low concentrations.
- Enhanced Suspended Solids Reduction: The unit effectively removes suspended solids, improving water clarity and reducing the risk of downstream blockages.
- Reduced Chemical Usage: By optimising the dosing of coagulants and flocculants, the Hybrid CPI/DAF Unit helps minimise chemical consumption and costs.
- Compact Design: The unit’s modular design allows for flexible installation and efficient operation in various industrial settings.
- Low Maintenance Requirements: The system is designed for ease of operation and minimal maintenance, reducing downtime and operational costs.
Case Study: Fujairah Oil Terminal FZC
SWA Water’s Hybrid CPI/DAF Unit has proven its effectiveness in real-world applications. One notable example is the DAF Plant Project at the Fujairah Oil Terminal FZC in the UAE.
Awarded by Rotary Engineers Singapore, SWA Water was tasked with designing, manufacturing, supplying, and commissioning a 50 m³/h CPI Oil Separator integrated with a Dissolved Air Flotation Unit. The unit was required to be EXD rated and constructed from SS304 stainless steel to meet the stringent safety and corrosion resistance requirements of the oil terminal industry.
The Hybrid CPI/DAF Unit successfully met the project’s objectives, delivering exceptional performance in oil removal and water quality improvement. The system’s reliability and efficiency contributed to the smooth operation of the Fujairah Oil Terminal FZC, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and minimising the risk of pollution.
