What is Dissolved Air Flotation?

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is a method of treating waste water which involves separating oils, grease and solids. When pollution is caused mostly by suspended or dissolved matter, we recommend the installation of a Dissolved Air Flotation separation system.

DAF systems will thicken the sludge of wastewater and also allow for fast and efficient removal of the waste.

How Does It Work?

Chemicals such as aluminium chloride and iron chloride are often used to destabilise colloidal particles so that floc formation occurs. Flocculation with other chemicals, for example,polyelectrolate, enables larger masses to form that can easily be removed.

The process of dissolved air flotation involves production of minute bubbles which attach to the solids of the wastewater and bring these solids to the surface of the water. These solids, or sludge, can then be removed by a mechanical device designed to scrape the top of the water.

Next, the water exits the float tank as clarified effluent. DAF systems can be either circular or rectangular in shape. The dissolved air filtration process is very fast, saving your business time and money.
